A number of devices exist which attempt to help individuals cope with visual impairments. Some are large, bulky, expensive, and must be prescribed by a low vision specialist. Others simply do not accomplish the intended goal. For example, there are currently available high powered reading glasses with prism but which contain NO illumination. In order to achieve the required illumination, patients must use the glasses with a miner's headlamp, other head-mounted lamps, or a desk lamp.
Low Vision Readers are portable, far less bulky, easier to use than other reading aids, relatively inexpensive, and do not need to be prescribed by a low vision specialist. Low Vision Readers use high powered LED lighting built into the spectacle frame, magnifying high powered lenses, and prism correction to fix the reading distance.
